Participants meet outside on Civic Plaza to imagine and build a fictional place/island by tracing, cutting, and layering paper, maps, foam, and recycled materials, creating "An Island of One's Own."
"Imaginary cartography begins where scientific cartography ends. It begins with the expectation of fantasy, play, and dream. With imaginary cartography, this personal mapping, it is not strange to reach new lands, islands and continents…” – Yiannis Christakos
Join us on the Civic Plaza for a workshop designed by Saskia Jorda, curator of the Contours of a Story Civic Center Gallery exhibition, where participants imagine and build a fictional place/island by tracing, cutting, and layering paper, maps, foam, and recycled materials, creating "An Island of One's Own.” **Space is limited to 15 participants due to supplies required. Tickets will be distributed 30 minutes prior to the program on Civic Plaza, in the seating area near LOVE sculpture.
