(ages 5 and up / 45 min) Get up close and personal with some amazing local reptiles.
Learn about reptile behavior, habitat, preservation and safety with a trained volunteer from the Phoenix Herpetological Society. This program gives children the opportunity to learn about rattlesnakes, Gila monsters, gopher snakes, and desert tortoises in the safety and comfort of the library! Children will learn what to do if they ever see or hear a rattlesnake in the wild--along with the reasons Gila monsters are such amazing animals, desert tortoises are protected animals, and how to tell if a snake is venomous or non-venomous. We explore various methods of staying safe in our desert environment as well. Animals used for interactions are non-venomous and are proven education animals.
Space is limited, so please see a staff person 30 minutes prior to the start of the program to pick up a ticket which will be your registration.
The 2 pm and the 3:30 pm programs will be identical.
