Yee-haw! Enjoy a nostalgic, photo-rich flashback of Scottsdale’s annual Parada del Sol, presented by Scottsdale community historian Joan Fudala as a kick-off to Scottsdale’s annual Western Week.
Begun in 1951 as the Sunshine Festival, Parada del Sol has entertained thousands every year, involved hundreds of volunteers, and preserved the best of Scottsdale: The West’s Most Western Town. From the parade itself, to beard-growing contests, mock bank holdups, queen contests, Trail’s End parties and rodeo dances, Parada has been a multi-generational community phenomenon that gets better every year. Rachel Smetana, City of Scottsdale Director of Tourism and Events and long-time Parada volunteer announcer, will provide an overview of this year’s Parada del Sol and Western Week events.
Come early to browse Parada and other Scottsdale memorabilia from the Scottsdale Heritage Connection and enjoy a beverage and a light snack before the presentation.
