In 1998, Scottsdale's Green Building Program was the first in the state and fifth in the nation to incentivize the construction of green buildings.
In 2005, the city adopted the nation's first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification policy for newly constructed city buildings.
In 2023, Scottsdale became one of the top five cities to adopt the International Green Construction Code (IgCC) as a building code for all new commercial and multifamily building projects.
